HOW DO YOUR CHILD LEARN

Hye Readers!
Lets read HOW DO YOUR CHILD LEARN..

The following perspective have different implications for how children develop, and therefore, the role of teachers in structuring childrens learning experience. As you will see, each perspective has both advantages and disadvantages..
*
*
- NATURE PERSPECTIVE  -
*Genetic makeup – the strength of genetic factors in directing children’s growth and development.
*Teacher – passive approach; role to support children “natural” learning skills.
*Positive: teacher respect and eager to support children’s natural abilities.
*Negative: teacher may make decisions about children’s learning abilities based solely upon their classroom behaviors or the statistical averages that result from standardized test.
*Negative: teacher may fail to take into account individual variations that occur in young children’s growth and development, children’s behavior outside the classroom, or influence of children’s living environments.
*
*
-NURTURE PERSPECTIVE-
“From a Nurturing Perspective, effective teaching must respect the learner’s self-concept and self-efficacy. Instructors holding Nurturing as their dominant perspective care deeply about their learners, working to support effort as much as achievement” (Pratt & Collins). Nurturing educators are dedicated to the whole person and not just the intellect of the learner. They believe fervently, that anything that threatens the self-concept hinders learning (Pratt & Collins).
*The child environment shaping the child development.
*Nurture perspective teacher – to understand the norms and expectation associated with different families, communities and cultures.
*Positive: teacher take a proactive stance in shaping children’s learning environments.
*Negative: it is difficult to construct a classroom environment that is equally supportive of every child’s home environment.
*
*
-INTERACTIONIST PERSPECTIVE-
*Nature and nurture interact to influence children’s development.
*Development is viewed as a holistic process involving the integration of all developmental domains.
*Interactionist perspective teacher have a flexible and reflective approach toward education and early learning.
*Positive: teacher take into account the social context of children’s lives and its possible influence on their development and classroom performance.
*Negative: it is impossible to precisely identify the relative importance of all genetic factors and environmental events that influence children’s development and education.
